Rifco Associates 2022: Call for submissions
Rifco Associates is a bespoke programme led by Associate Director Ameet Chana and Artistic Director Pravesh Kumar. It has been specifically created to address the lack of opportunities and pathways for British South Asian artists.
This year, we're on the hunt for new and mid-career writers and writer/performers from British South Asian backgrounds to develop scripts for short-form digital content.
Who is eligible?
You must be:
- over 18 years old
- of British South Asian heritage
- A UK resident
What are we looking for?
New and mid-career writers and writer/performers to submit innovative and contemporary original ideas from all genres that reflect the British South Asian experience.
What should I send in?
Your submission should include:
a) A detailed description of your idea (no more than 500 words).
b) An in-depth description of yourself and why your piece is important. Please include any writing experience you may have (no more than 500 words).
c) One example of your writing. This could be an extract from your pitch, or previous writing.
d) A previous example of any digital projects you have contributed towards.
If you don't have any previous writing experience, then just tell us about you and why you think the Associates Programme would be of benefit to your artistic practice.
*If a written submission is not an appropriate method for applying for you due to access reasons we're happy to receive a video responding to the above criteria (no longer than 3 minutes).

Remember, we're looking for a range of experienced writers whose work has already been produced, as well as new and emerging writers and writer/performers.

What happens next?
We're looking to commission three scripts, if you’re selected you’ll receive:
- A send commission of £500 to develop a piece of new writing
- Sessions with an industry mentor or dramaturg
- Skills development workshops
- Regular support from the Rifco artistic team
- Writer in Residency days
- Masterclasses with established writers and digital content creators
- At least two of the scripts will receive a budget, be filmed, edited, produced and broadcast online.
Here’s a checklist of what you need to submit for your application:
- A detailed description of you idea
- A description of you and your experience
- An example / extract of your writing (this could be from your pitch)
- An example of digital work you have made or written for
- A completed equal opportunities form
