4th August 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asians Exodus. We're commemorating this with GenerAsians - a series of films about conversations between generations.
We want to hear stories and memories from 1972 to the present day from you, your family, or your friends about personal experiences of being expelled from Uganda. Please click the button below and fill out the short form:
We will tell each individual history through a filmed intergenerational conversation between two family members. The idea is for the younger generation to interview someone older who lived through that experience.
We envisage that some stories will be of people reaching UK shores and making something of their life in Britain. Some stories might involve the journey back to Uganda after years of living away. Some will tell of a stark contrast between a previous profession and menial labour. We want to shine a light on how displacement, prejudice and new beginnings shaped a generation’s definition of home.
We’d love your help in finding families who’d like to be involved - they don’t have to speak English as all films will be captioned.
